Here we have the new 2021 Toyota Mirai, the all new hydrogen fuel cell car. Yes, this is the ultra luxury sedan from Toyota that is powered by hydrogen. We know that Toyota is a company that is rapidly moving on towards alternative kind of fuels. Even their line-up includes hybrids cars, gasoline-hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. This car being a hydrogen powered car means you refill the car by through hydrogen filling stations. The hydrogen reacts with oxygen in a fuel cell, which as a result creates electricity which powers the car to move, impressive isn't it. The hydrogen cars starts at $50,500 and goes up depending on the trim level as per your request. 



Pros and Cons



Exterior Design 


The exterior of this car is one main aspect which a makes it an immensely appealing vehicle. The car gives a slight resemblance to Lexus of  Toyota. It has a very unique touch of a fast-back sports sedan like shape. The front looks a lot more aggressive indeed. The front large front grill giving a horizontal illuminating garnish gives a stunning look. The front does resembles like a face of cat with an applied eyeliner. The design looks and feels very good, the lights are attractive and a very unique concept is given by Toyota for the lights.


On the side the car has a really nice look, the curves make it look wider. The side profile line going from front till back gives a more sportier touch to this hydrogen car. Fuel Cell badging on lower side skirts. You get either 19'' or 20'' size wheels depending upon the selected trim. Moreover, the wheel design is really modern looking and attractive.


From the backside, again the car looks beautiful. A descending slope is given on back side, depicting a sports like feature. Then there is the body shaped embedded rear spoiler. Not a spoiler utilizing all the drag and pressure difference sciences but just a simple add on for better aesthetics of the vehicle. The rear lights look stunning with a neon like strip going inside all the way in the rear light, gives a very modern and sharp look. The rear bumper is redesigned with black trim, not of a diffuser kind but giving a very nice combination with color.

Overall, the design of this car is very unique. It has a Lexus touch within itself, mixing the typical Toyota curves with more aggressive profiles. The lights are great, car looks great from every angle. Moreover, it has this special modern and futuristic look with uniqueness.

 


Engine, Power, Transmission and Mechanics


Toyota technology is ahead in alternative fuels and hybrid systems. Again in Mirai 2021, Toyota taps into energy produced by latest version of Toyota's fuel-stack on board. The batteries and motors of this car does perform really well. The only downer being the gradual and sluggish acceleration of the car. But overall, the drive quality, cabin noise, stability, cornering and driving feels are all still perfectly done.



Mileage and Fuel economy

Toyota has done great job with Mirai 2021, not only giving it aesthetic upgrades only but also inculcating main technological changes within the car. The range of Mirai 2021 is improved compared to previous versions.

Moreover the fuel consumption is greatly enhanced as compared to previous Mirai and other hydrgen vehicle competitors.

Another great news for the environmentalists and Earth savvy people is that the only by-product ans waste emission from this car is H2O, that is water. Yes, there are no carbon emissions and harmful waste gases from this car. The reaction gives energy and water as by product. The water gets stored in a tank and can be expelled manually, by a control button inside or it drips by itself gradually.

Interior Design 

The Interior design of this Mirai 2021 is pretty and standard and straightforward. Moreover it does resembles to usual Lexus car interior. One thing Toyota has done is to design the interior in quite a normal looking way, adding not much futuristic themes in it to make this car seem a bit normal. The inside cabin feels very nice. 


Over the dashboard we have this special line running from central console towards passenger side. The style is a modified design of Lexus, moreover is like a trend that most car follow in designing the dash. The gear lever is again the signature gear lever from Toyota for its energy saving car, that is a small gear lever in center.

The seats feel nice with high-end fabric, with proper up-holstered position. Another great feature is the heated and cooled seats. Even you can adjust the heat and coolness of seats from the central infotainment system. Then there is the steering wheel with a very typical touch, control buttons and logo in center. But one very unique touch the steering wheel gets is the again the heat and coolness control for it. This really does adds to luxury and premiumness of this Toyota Mirai 2021. The infotainment system is nice having some of its length peaking over the dash.


 

The panoramic sun-roof has a central cross bar in middle taking most of the view. This is changed as compared to cars having entire roof has panoramic glass. The sun-roof is also has a cover and over control inside the car, that allows you to wither use panoramic roof or cover it and have a typical car feels. 

The rear view mirror has this 2-option control system. One with usual back viewing and other one featuring the camera view on back mirror. 


Toyota Mirai 2021 comes with JBL audio system giving a very nice and premium touch to car's sound system. The car features a total of 14 speaker, JBL audio system with sub-woofer. The car also has wireless phone charging dock in a central console.


One main con for this car is the rear sear leg room. Yes that is really compromised and does pose problem for rear passengers. For taller people even, the head-room is very much compromised. Toyota branding this hydrogen fueled Mirai as a luxury car did not perform well in designing the rear passenger area.

Overall, the car interior does feels premium and classy. Several unique and extra-luxury features are included together with the down side of tight space at back seats. Moreover, the layout feels good, a good control and reach for the driver. The steering wheel, gauges, central console and dashboard layout seems pretty well laid out. Thus, the overall interior quality is good.


Boot Space and Practicality

Rear Boot space: 12.8 cubic feet

The car offers a decent boot space of  12.8 cubic feet. This is okay for a normal sized sedan. One thing to note for this car is that the rear trunk is manually operated. Yes, Mirai 2021 does not offer power trunk, but is manually operated. Now this is not a good idea for this price category as offered by Mirai. But you can fit in 2 to 3 decent sized bags in this space easily.


Final Verdict

For the final verdict of Toyota Mirai 2021, it is a nice looking car. The exterior is indeed very uniqu and futuristic. The looks are pretty much stunning. For the interior, the car does feels premium, but loses some premium features. The car is a bit over-priced, and one main thing being the poor hydrogen infrastructure. If hydrogen becomes readily available then this car does has a go for it vote. But under current circumstances Mirai does have a log way to go.
